| As you will soon see, the terminology used by an individual is dependent upon the weapon being practiced. This is in large part due to the geographic area from which the weapon or weapon system derived or from the language employed by one of the tomes of the era. A perfect example of geographic determination is the rapier, which seems to have developed in Italy and therefore the terms are, amazingly, in Italian. Many German terms have found their way into usage as regards the long sword as the most well known treatise on the subject and the first true recognized (by being published) master of the weapon was German. Click on the tab listing the weapon in which you have an interest to be redirected to its dictionary. |
